Welcome to the Quick Start Guide for the Alexis Chrome Extension. This guide will walk you through the steps to get Alexis up and running on your Chrome browser, offering you a personalized study companion tailored to the ALX Software Engineering program.
Before Alexis is available on the Chrome Web Store, you'll need to install it as an unpacked extension. Follow these steps to install:
Download the Extension
Download the latest version of the Alexis Chrome Extension zip file from the provided link.
Unzip the File
Extract the downloaded .zip
file to a folder on your computer. Remember the location of this folder.
Enable Developer Mode
Open Chrome Extensions Page
Open the Chrome browser and navigate to chrome://extensions/
in your address bar. Ensure you have Developer mode enabled by toggling the switch in the top right corner.
Load Unpacked Extension
Click on the "Load unpacked" button and select the folder where you extracted the Alexis Chrome Extension. The extension should now appear in your list of installed extensions.
Pin the Extension (Optional)
For easy access, you may want to pin the Alexis extension to your Chrome toolbar. Click on the Extensions icon (puzzle piece) in the Chrome toolbar, find Alexis, and click the "pin" icon.
To use Alexis, you'll need to authenticate via GitHub OAuth:
Open the Extension
Click on the Alexis icon in your Chrome toolbar to open the side panel.
Start Authentication
Click on the "Log In" button. You will be redirected to an external webpage for authentication.
Authorize Alexis
Click on the "Get Started" button. You will be redirected to a page where you can login with your Github account.
Follow the instructions on the GitHub page to authorize Alexis. No personal information is collected during this process.
Return to the Extension
Once authenticated, navigate back to the Alexis extension side panel. You should now be logged in and ready to start using Alexis.
Now that you've installed and authenticated Alexis, you can begin exploring its features. Start by clicking the Alexis icon and typing in a message or question related to your project. Alexis will assist you based on the context of the current project you're working on.
Remember, you can provide additional context for your queries using the #<task-number>
syntax to include specific task details in your conversation.
Upon release, Alexis will be available for download directly from the Chrome Web Store. Here's how to access it:
Visit the Chrome Web Store
Navigate to the Chrome Web Store and search for "Alexis Chrome Extension."
Install the Extension
Click "Add to Chrome" to install Alexis. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
Authenticate and Start Using
Once installed from the Web Store, follow the authentication steps mentioned above to start using Alexis.
